Respect Asian people

In the news lately is that Asian people, especially the elderly, are being attacked in their communities that is a horrifying display of any individual that dares to attack someone that is old and not able to defend themselves from their would-be attacker, is a crime.

One example of this is where a man named Yahya Muslim, 28 years old, attacked an elderly man who is 91 years old shoved to the ground by Muslim that leads to the announcement on Instagram by actors Daniel Wu and Daniel Dae Kim to offer a reward of $25000 for such senseless violence against an elderly person. Eventually, Muslim was taken into custody where he also allegedly attacked two other people the same day.

Since then, more and more attacks on Asian people have become a more pressing matter that social media brought about the hashtag #stopasianhate to bring awareness to all people that hate crimes against Asian people is unjust, racially motivated, and has gone unheard of for too long.

Everyone in the world knows someone that is Asian. They are our neighbors, co-workers, family, and friends that go about their day trying to live their best life. It hits a little too close to home that I have in-laws that are Asian that it has become a concern for my little nephew who is part Asian that if anything would happen to him I’d trade my life for his in a heartbeat.

It is important to bring awareness to such crimes that are often seen as a cry for help but left ignored and excused that enough was enough and must be heard by other communities to understand that such hate only leads to more pain and suffering to Asian families that have lost loved ones because someone had to put the hurt on one of their own of the level of disrespect and should not be grown accustomed to such silence that has plagued racist acts of crime for far too long.

The documentary, Who Killed Vincent Chin, released in 1987 and directed by Christine Choy and Renee Tajima-Pena, documents the life of Vincent Chin who was a successful engineer that had a career designing automobiles his life cut short by Ronald Ebens and Michael Nitz over an altercation at a bar and was beaten to death by a baseball bat by Ebens. The assailants were only given lenient sentences from a plea bargain that left an outrage of civil rights advocates that fought for justice to prove that Chin’s death was racially motivated. He was 27 at the time of his death.

With much more attention that is given to such crimes against Asian people is to also show the importance of who Asian people are. They are people like you and me that have a voice and have a purpose to live. Their achievements, goals, opinions, view, values, family, customs, and as people is to show the same respect and courtesy to show them love and appreciation for who Asian people are. Respect your Asian elders and also respect all elderly people that have wisdom that gives knowledge and purpose for younger people to be educated of how racism affects peoples lives and the hate it brings and the hate it gives to families that suffer such hate crimes that go unpunished and must be brought to light that Asian hate is wrong but all prejudice is wrong no matter what race people are.

Appreciate, don’t discriminate. They are our brothers and sisters to.
